A lot of our orders come from contractors and resellers, and some come from nonprofits and other organizations that don’t pay sales tax on qualifying purchases. If that’s you, we can set your account up so tax isn’t charged when it shouldn’t be. We just need the paperwork first.
How to set it up
- Email a copy of your valid exemption certificate or resale certificate to Info@BuyComfortDirect.com before you place your order. You can also call us at (877) 843-4822.
- Include the name and email on your Buy Comfort Direct account so we can match the certificate to it.
- Our team will review the certificate and set up your account.
- Once it’s set, place your order.
Send the certificate before you order, not after. It’s a lot simpler to get the account right up front than to sort out tax on an order that’s already gone through.
What a resale certificate is
Sales tax is meant to be collected once, on the final sale to the end user. A resale certificate is the document a business gives a supplier to show it’s buying goods to resell, so the supplier doesn’t charge tax on that purchase. The tax gets collected later, when the business sells to its own customer.
Exemption certificates work along the same lines for buyers whose purchases are exempt for another reason, such as some nonprofits or government agencies.
A few things to know:
- Every state sets its own rules. Some have their own forms, some accept a multistate form, and some certificates expire and need to be renewed.
- A resale certificate generally covers goods you’re reselling. Things your business uses itself usually don’t qualify.
- Misusing a certificate can leave the buyer owing back tax, penalties and interest.

Call us at (877) 843-4822 and we’ll look at it. The easiest route is always to send your certificate before ordering.
Do I need to send a certificate every time I order?
Once it’s on your account, you shouldn’t have to. If your certificate expires or your business details change, send us the updated one.
Which certificate should I send?
Send the one your state accepts for the purchase you’re making. If you’re unsure, ask your accountant or check your state’s revenue department website.
