People call us all the time asking which brand is “the best.” Honest answer: the brand matters less than most folks think. A well-installed, properly sized, matched system from a solid manufacturer will usually outlast a premium-badge unit that went in sloppy.
Still, brands are different, and it’s fair to want to know how. These pages lay out the facts we could confirm from each manufacturer, side by side, without the sales pitch.
What matters more than the logo
Who installs it
Refrigerant charge, airflow, duct sizing, drain lines and the line set all depend on the person doing the work. A licensed contractor who follows the manufacturer’s instructions protects your comfort and your warranty. Manufacturers can void a warranty when that doesn’t happen. We don’t install, so this is the one decision we always tell people to take seriously.
A matched system
The outdoor unit and the indoor coil or air handler are designed and rated as a pair. Mix pieces that weren’t tested together and you can lose efficiency, run into comfort problems, or end up with a combination that won’t qualify for a rebate. That’s why we sell complete matched systems and built a system selector to help you pick one.
The warranty, and registering it
Most major brands now tie their longest parts warranty to online registration after installation. Goodman, Trane and Lennox each use a 60-day window, and Carrier uses 90 days. Read the certificate for the exact model you’re looking at, because coverage changes from one product line to the next.
Parts down the road
Ask your installer which brands they can get parts for quickly in your area. A system that’s down for a week waiting on a part is no fun in August.
Right size for the house
An oversized system short-cycles. An undersized one runs all day. Our sizing tool gives you a starting point, and a load calculation from your contractor is better still.
Head-to-head comparisons
Shopping online HVAC stores
If you’re comparing where to buy, not just what to buy, these pages cover what we offer and what to look for in any online HVAC store:

How to read a quote from any brand
When quotes start coming in, they rarely line up neatly. One lists a model number, another just says “16 SEER2 system.” A few tips for comparing them fairly:
- Ask every contractor for full model numbers on the outdoor unit, the indoor coil or air handler, and the furnace if there is one.
- Check that each quote is for the same size and the same type of system.
- See what’s included beyond the equipment: line set, pad, thermostat, permits, haul-away.
- Ask who registers the warranty and what labor coverage the installer gives.
Our guides on reading an AC model number and system replacement cost can help with the rest.
Efficiency tiers look alike across brands
Most major brands build the same three kinds of equipment. Single-stage units run at full blast or not at all. Two-stage units have a lower setting for mild days. Variable-speed units adjust in small steps and tend to run longer, quieter cycles. The names change from brand to brand, but the ladder is the same, so compare tier to tier, not logo to logo.
What we carry
We sell Goodman, Daikin, MRCOOL and Solace, our own brand. Solace systems use R-32 refrigerant and carry a 10-year parts and compressor warranty. We’ve been in HVAC since 1995 and work out of our own warehouse in Winder, Georgia.
Common questions
Which HVAC brand is the most reliable?
Installation quality and correct sizing tend to matter more than the brand. Pick a reputable manufacturer, buy a matched system and hire a licensed contractor.
Do all brands require warranty registration?
Many do for their longest coverage. Goodman, Trane and Lennox use a 60-day window and Carrier uses 90 days, though some states handle it differently.
Can I mix brands between the indoor and outdoor units?
It’s best not to. Systems are rated and warrantied as matched sets, so buy pieces designed to work together.
